Israeli occupation to build 380 new settlement units

The Israeli-controlled Jerusalem municipality on Wednesday endorsed a bid to build 380 new settlement units in Occupied Jerusalem.

The Israeli-controlled Jerusalem municipality on Wednesday endorsed a bid to build 380 new settlement units in Occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli media sources quoted officials in the municipality as saying that the municipal committee approved the building of 307 new housing units in the illegal settlement of Ramot and 73 others in Jabal Abu Ghunaim illegal settlement.

The tender comes at a time when the Palestinian Authority (PA) lodged an appeal, backed by Jordan, with the UN Security Council to end the Israeli occupation within a specific timeframe (by 2017) and establish an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

Hamas leader and PLC deputy, Miriam Salah, dubbed the new tender a real “disaster.”

She urged the Palestinian leadership to immediately step in and pool resources to face up to Israel’s settlement agendas

Arab and Western governments, including the US, have continuously expressed concern over Israel’s illegal settlement expansion across the Occupied Palestinian territories, saying such plans are stumbling blocks before peace talks between the two parties.
